I have been in the I.T. industry for almost 14 years, I have been in different projects and met different kinds of people, young ones, old ones… and now, looking back I’m realizing the some differences with young developers and mature developers..

I remember when I was a young developer I usually want to things fast, my development, my task, meetings, etc.. and looking back at those experience I have noticed that one of the reason why I want to do things fast is so that I could learn faster, I could make mistakes faster and learn from those mistakes.. that was my mentally.. I remember the young Mark Zuckerberg always says “fail fast, learn fast”.. and these mentality is really for young developers .. young developers tends to make things in trial and error that’s why they want to do things fast.

While compare today, I’m not getting younger… I do things slowly, why? because I work / I do things based from experience and not from trial and error. I think before I do, because I know I have already faced those kind of issues before. I’m working much wiser.

Now, I understand why mature and old senior developers (most not all) are slow and they take time on doing things.. because when you are mature you tend to see not just the things in front of you but also the big picture of the task. The issues that may happen, the problems that may arise, the advantages and disadvantages of certain approach .. things like that.

so I guess my lesson here is young vs mature developers have different perspective in looking into things.

I maybe wrong, but that’s my thoughts for today.
