Why I quit my software engineering job at Accenture?

A long long time ago, I got hired as a software engineer at Accenture and I’m really happy about everything.. the professionalism, the food, the environment, the benefits, the playground, the perks basically It was all great!!

But then something happened, it’s an event that some say happens every 10 years in the market. I have no clue about it. The next thing I know and I see are people crying, news spreading, Accenture laying out batches of people. People loosing their jobs. It was a global recession.

But our batch were lucky, Accenture tried to saved most of us from loosing our jobs they spread us into different projects that somewhat not related into software engineering and we are very thankful on that move and somewhat frustrated because we wanted an tech a project..but that’s not the reason why I quit..because..

After a few months, they re-aligned us to a tech project. Everything seems ok, but back then I wasn’t aware of the impact of recession. I have no idea how the industry work along with the economy.

And then one day, we have this performance review which happens every year, usually involves salary increases and bonuses, I was expecting a decent amount of salary increase, at least to combat inflation, but it was a dissappointing moment. Our salary increase has been affected by the recession. I received only 1% of salary increase which is really low. And…

Then I received a call from another company and got an offer that doubled my salary. Yes, I was just thinking of the money I’m very young back then so I took the opportunity. lame right?

So yeah, that’s the very reason why I left Accenture. Anyway I would really say I could have stayed for a few more years. Accenture is a very good company overall. I’m still thankful to this day that it’s my first company it became my highest standard in looking for a company.
